Young theatre director Lewis is desperate for work. When he is offered a job to stage his first play, Lewis can't say no. The only catch? The cast are patients from a mental institution and the play is Mozart's opera Cosi fan tutte. As Lewis works with his patients, his concept of love, politics and mental illness transforms.

Set against the background of Australia's mounting opposition to the Vietnam War, this classic Australian comedy/drama examines the line between sanity and insanity and the conflict between morals and obligation.
